Mr. Conti glazed over climate change pretty fast given that it may well be the trigger to our extinction, and possibly soon.

Research Opportunity
by researchstudentsophie inmy name is sophie, and i am currently in the class ap research.
the aim of ap research is to have students enter into an academic conversation that exists about a specific topic or issue.
for my research project, i have chosen to evaluate the social stress levels, or sense of belonging, within members of the jehovah’s witnesses community, due to my personal background with the religion.. the following attachment will help me collect data for my research.

Earnest -
It isn't "my" source, and I haven't drawn any conclusion from it . It was just one (likely biased) study among many others referenced by JW FACTS, regarding worldwide aberrant mental health statistics of JWs.
A challenge was issued to produce such a statistic and it was produced
Sophie is doing research as a student of Cornell on a topic of great interest to every member of this forum...we who spend hours howling and wailing about how the hypocrisy, dishonesty and dogma of WT continues to ruin so much in so many of our families and friends.
When invited to comment on how this cults insanity affects those in the work force, we shoot the messenger by challenging her affiliations, her motives and even her honesty (yes she really did see a figure as high as "...10 to 16 times...").
With such a welcome It might strike her as obvious that the anxiety, mistrust and paranoia might linger long after escaping the asylum that created it.

JW Facts / Mental illness amongst Jehovah's Witnesses
Less than 30 seconds to find a study Sophie possibly cited. Ohio 1972 to 1976
"The mental illness rate of JWs is approximately 10 to 16 times higher than the rate for the general, nonWitness population... From his intensive interviews with Witness patients and others, Montague concluded that persons who had emotional problems were attracted to the Witnesses, but involvement also caused many of the emotional problems that they suffered. This is evident from the fact that many with problems reported they were far happier after they left.
Inquiring minds are eager to know WHY cults contribute to such high figures .
The first child ever raised full/on JW in our family later became our families first and ever suicide.
We KNOW why the rates are so high so get your asses into gear and give Sophie an earful of how religious abuse and hypocrisy affect the lives of working people.

My story
by Leeny ini came across this website when i was looking for some emotional/mental support lately as i was summoned by elders to explain someone’s report on me saying “i’m promoting homosexuality”.
i’m inactive, not attending meetings or associating with jw outside of my biological family for almost 2 years now.. yes i am gay (you can judge away) and yes it is in a direct contrast to the scriptures, no arguement about it.. i was brought up in a jw family.
my dad is a typical zealot, he literally talks or thinks about the bible 24/7.

Public Talk invitations ....Next to .Zero Attendees
by smiddy3 infrom my conversion at the end of 1959 to my leaving the j.w`s about early 1993 i remember especially in the first 20 -30 years or so giving out invitations to public talks that were to be given at our local k.h.
every time i went out in the service witnessing from door to door week in week out i would leave these tracts at not at homes or whoever would accept them .. and in my personal experience i cannot recall more than five worldly / non j.w.
people , if that , who came to a public talk as a result of the invitations given at the doors in our witnessing work in the 33 years of my being an active jehovah`s witness .. and none of them ever became a jehovah`s witness .. was it just me ?

Correct me if I'm wrong but there seems to be no such thing as a "Public Talk" for quite some years now.
While the KH outside menus used to refer to a Pubic talk Or Public Discourse they now refer to weekday or weekend meetings .
I imagine this is in keeping with the strictly insular nature of a high control cult.
In reality, nothing is really intended for, or the benefit of the public - (hence no charitable works from a registered charity). But rather all is for the control of the captive membership.
Completely logical for a group with more former than current members = more detractors than supporters.

When I joined this forum about 2013, your comments were highly valued as from a person of dignity, admirable compassion and deep experience. While your posts from those days certainly conveyed your kindness, and thoughtful humanity, I suggest that you "cracked the door" a few months ago when you responded to a post that offended.
In that post you set the record straight and stood your ground heroically as I recall, and I've since admired you even more ... now this !
Your interview adds to your fine personality a fascinating history - and all set down swaddled in the fine literary lilt of the Irish.
Maeve - 'tis an honour to know you lass.

Fading with Confidence
by gone for good inabandoning a damaging cult is not a crime, in fact it might be viewed as a moral imperative given the levels of abuse awaiting those surrendering to its teachings and worse –its "ecclesiastic authority".. it has always seemed counter productive to inform potential enemies when your life´s goals now conflict with their rigid agendas.
disassociation letters and manifestos may be cathartic in the writing, but the outcome is a 100% certainty because of the inflexibility and lack of caring by the very group it is delivered to.. .
"fading" from under "high control" seems an oxymoronic risk at best, and currently faders walk on eggshells and look over their shoulders for years during and after the attempt - fearful that the price of their freedom will be the destruction of their friendships and family ties.. perhaps a peculiar additional preparation to a fade can reverse the balance of power – and high control cults are all about power.. .. bear in mind: - .

Hello everyone and thanks for your responses -
Phoebe - it was your situation that caused me to raise this issue again.
I posted the topic just hours before I left on international travel, because I didn't want to lose the draft. I will further our discussion (based on your comments)
The travel I mentioned involved flight delays, missed connections and 2 FULL days and nights at big airports. I need to recover and collect my scattered wits before I respond to your...zzzzzzzzzzzzz

Nephew’s JW Fiancée Begins Conversion to Judaism Due to Passover Date
by Rabbi Midge init’s been a while since i posted, but for those who remember, i came on here to get some information about jehovah’s witnesses because i have a nephew who was getting engaged to a girl who was a jehovah’s witness and, along with some other sites, i was recommended this one.. since then we’ve been busy with passover and jehovah’s witnesses have had something they call the memorial of christ’s death (i believe i have that right).
this clashing of the two observances apparently did more for this girl than anything else i ever saw in our months of conversations with her.. respectfully, jews do not proselytize.
these are people who, of their own desire, “join the tribe” after some years of study and practice--something this girl has just begun to do.

Welcome back RES ! -
Please hang around and try to ignore the haters.
I don´t care who you are or aren´t but you certainly carry a lively discussion from the unique position in Judaism and I for one, have questions about your community and life I would like your viewpoints on.
I´m travelling for a bit but maybe next week...
